BASE demonstration methodology distinguishes Four Use Case (UC) Pilots.

Each of these pilots aim to validate the BASE Digital Battery Passport (DBP) functionality.

General Objectives for each Pilot

  • Establish secure and reliable access to federated DBP infrastructure
  • Leverage DBP capabilities by providing systematic immutable data inputs to DBP
  • Validate transparency, accuracy, and reliability of battery indicators estimation methods
  • Synchronise DBP data provisions with a realistic product development lifecycle
  • Adopt interoperable data sharing among value network members
  • Provide real physical data needed for circularity index tuning, ESGE analysis and business impact analysis

U C 3 – Marine

Electric tugboat production

Industry: Marine vessel, electric tugboat

Product details: Navtek Naval Technologies produces all-electric tugboats (tugs). In their product line, the “Zeetug” family of tugs covers bollard pull range from 30T up to 80T and is expected to proliferate the maritime market, contributing to zero emissions and quiet operation. These electric tugs are built around COR batteries (Orca product line)- the dominant marine batteries on the market.

Battery details: Zeetug30 contains 1425 kWh battery which is capable of 7000 charge cycles and is built around Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. It is charged by 2x500kWh onshore stations in under 30mins. The battery lifetime is 10 years.

Pilot focus: The complete BASE solution, including the DBP of an actual battery, will undergo testing. Priority will be given to benchmarking the SoX battery indicators, with a strong emphasis on analysing the economic impact of DBP costs concerning the large number of cells used in battery packs. While the size, weight and geography restricts actual recycling, re-use or upcycling of particular batteries during the project duration, BeePlanet, Adscensus and Exitcom will analyse individual business cases. As this industry is emerging, it shows great promise for 2nd and end-of-life (EOL) applications.
